Wes Breckenridge was elected in November 2016 to represent Iowa House District 29 which is most of Jasper County, including the communities of Newton, Baxter, Colfax, Kellogg, Mingo, Oakland Acres and Prairie City.
Wes serves as an Assistant Minority Leader in the Iowa House and previously served as the Ranking Member of the Iowa House Justice Systems Budget.
Wes earned a master’s degree in management from American Military University. He has a Master’s Certificate in Criminal Justice from the University of Virginia and graduated from the FBI National Academy. Wes received his bachelor’s degree in public administration from Upper Iowa University.
Wes currently works as an instructor of criminal justice at DMACC. In 2017, Wes retired as a lieutenant from the Newton Police Department after a 27 career. He served as a School Resource Officer, DARE instructor, Drug Task Force Officer, and Traffic Safety Officer. He previously served as a Prairie City Police Officer, Monroe Police Department Interim Chief, and Jasper County Sheriff’s Reserves Deputy.
Wes works with a local social action committee on human trafficking awareness, and is also active with other community organizations.
Wes has been married to his wife Kris for 30 years. They have three wonderful children and one grandson.
